Emotions are what make us so uniquely human, yet they can be such a great source of pain and discomfort for us. When we are besieged by strong and powerful emotions, they can sweep us in a tide of uncomfortable feelings and cause us to feel completely overwhelmed.

Emotions are your body’s way of communicating with you. They reflect to you what’s truly going on inside yourself.

Each day, you are faced with a choice to be aware of what’s going on ‘under the hood’ with your emotions, or to let distractions command your attention so you don’t have to look or listen.

How might you manage difficult emotions?

When emotions are intense or painful, it’s natural to not want to look or listen to them. It’s natural to react to these feelings by wanting to shove them some place where you don’t feel them.

As a result, emotions can become suppressed and buried inside the body. The energies associated with these emotions can remain embedded within the layers of connective tissue and internals of the body for days, months, or even years. The effect of this can be far reaching.

An important key to preventing the suppression of feelings is to acknowledge their presence when you have them, and to be accepting of them.

This is not always easy to do, especially if you are experiencing feelings in a manner which is not socially accepted.

Being honest with yourself about how you feel, and being kind to yourself by accepting the fact that you feel a certain way, is a good practice that allows the energies associated with the feeling or emotion to flow their natural course, and helps to avoid the energy becoming suppressed.

Adopting a mindful attitude toward your emotions, cultivating a genuine acceptance of your feelings, not judging yourself for feeling a certain way, and being open to observing yourself while you are experiencing emotions, can be steps you take toward lasting change.

How can energy work help with an emotional healing process?

Receiving energy work in the form of something like energy clearing and balancing can help you into a very relaxed state, in which you feel safe, nurtured, and more connected to your body. This connection to yourself can make you more receptive to your feelings and emotions.

Sometimes when energy work applies therapeutic touch to a body area in which emotions or feelings have become suppressed, something can potentially be stirred within you.

This can be in the form of suppressed memories or images popping into your mind, or as body sensations or feelings which spontaneously present themselves.

By using mindfulness in this relaxed state, you can be more open to noticing and exploring these reactions. Being open to the feelings and sensations that result from this, allows their energies to flow. When you surrender to the flow of these energies, you allow your body and unconscious to process these in whichever way is best for you.

When you offer yourself permission for a healing process to happen inside you, and when you accept what your body reveals to you as part of this process in a sincere and genuine heart-felt way, you create an opportunity for suppressed energies to be processed and released from your body.

The effects of this can be transformational.

Energy work is a resource that helps you into a state of therapeutic relaxation, which can facilitate an emotional healing process, if that is what you are ready for.

The real work however, is done by you – through your intent and openness to looking within yourself, and being mindful of what your body is wanting to reveal to you, so that it can be healed.
